A new recognition scheme, celebrating Sefton residents for being good citizens, is being launched by Sefton CVS and the Sefton Mayor’s Office.
Citizens 4 Good hopes to recognise local people for good deeds, kindness and support they provide to other members of their community. The scheme is a joint initiative between Sefton CVS and Sefton Council’s Mayor’s Office.
“While we already provide a recognition scheme for volunteers through the Volunteer Centre,” says Mike Howlett, Sefton CVS’ Volunteer & Citizenship Lead “But we know that there are lots of people across doing great things in their community, but who weren’t formal volunteers.”
“Anyone can nominate a Sefton resident who they think is a good citizen,” Mike continues “You might nominate someone who helped you out at a time of need or for simply being a good neighbour. They may organise informal events, like coffee mornings, book groups, etc.”
Nominations could come from a neighbour, friend, helper, school, Councillor, etc. who can nominate someone they think are making a difference locally, using a simple and short nomination form which can be downloaded from Sefton4good.org.uk.
Citizens 4 Good is supported by the Mayor’s Office at Sefton Council and shortlisted nominees will be invited to an event where they can meet the Mayor and be presented with a certificate to recognise the good that they do.
“So much good takes place in Sefton,” says Cllr Dave Robinson, Mayor of Sefton “And we want to shine a spotlight on those people making a difference to their community.”
The deadline for nominations is Friday 4th August, with the celebration event taking place in the last week of August at 5.30pm.
If the Citizens 4 Good initiative proves popular, it is hoped that these celebrations events will take place regularly throughout the year.
