Discover a world of support at Transition and Beyond event

Find out more about the support available for young people with learning disabilities as they become adults at Transition and Beyond.

The event will give young people and their families and friends the chance to learn about job and volunteering opportunities, housing support, leisure facilities and travel help which is available to adults across Wigan Borough.

Through The Deal for Adult Social Care Wigan Council and its partners are focusing the support it gives to adults with learning disabilities on the individual. This means listening to what support they might need, which could be as simple as help to find work, day support services, respite options, autism support, social events or volunteering opportunities to enrich their lives.

There will be more than 75 providers on hand at the free event, which takes place on Tuesday 12th April at Leigh Sports Village, with stalls offering advice for young people and their families.

The event has been planned with help from families who have gone through the transition from children’s to adult service support to make sure every need is met.

Susan Jones, a mum who is the chairperson for the planning group, said: “I know from personal experience that transition can be very stressful and even traumatic for young people and their families – that is why I value the importance of my role on the event planning team. This event is the ideal opportunity for families to find support and pursue all the options and opportunities that are available across our borough.”

Transition and Beyond runs from 1pm to 6.30pm on Tuesday.
