Community organisations could be given chance to run Liverpool Road Meeting Room

Community groups may be able to take over the management of a community meeting room in Skelmersdale.

West Lancashire Borough Council is offering an opportunity for Community Organisations to register an interest to fully manage the future operation of Liverpool Road Meeting Room, Skelmersdale.

The facility would be offered by the Council on a full management lease, for a minimum of 25 years. The Council would be committed to working alongside any groups that are seriously interested in taking over the Meeting Room and can demonstrate an appropriate business case.

Similar arrangements have seen former community centres at Birch Green, Digmoor, Greenhill and Tanhouse transferred from West Lancashire Borough Council to community and local management committees and run with great success.

To express your interest or get more information write to: Paula Campbell, Community Leisure Manager, Leisure & Wellbeing, Robert Hodge Centre, Stanley Way, Skelmersdale, WN8 8EE. Or email paula.campbell@westlancs.gov.uk.

The expressions of interest must be received by the Council by Friday 30 August.

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “This is a great opportunity for community groups to take over the meeting room. The successful applicant would have the opportunity to help and support the local community by providing a wide range of facilities”.
