‘Claim free school meals now’ advice to parents and families

0

New criteria affecting working parents who claim Universal Credit and free school meals for their school aged children will be introduced on April 1.

The changed criteria affect new claims being made from April 1, (with protection for children already receiving free school meals until they change schools), but the advice is to claim as soon as you can.

Cllr Bernie Mooney, Wirral’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: ‘Our advice is, if you intend to make a new claim, don’t delay – claim now.’

Children affected by the new eligibility criteria will continue to receive free school meals until the end of their current phase of education. This protection lasts until 2022.

Apply at www.wirral.gov.uk/free-school-meals or e-mail freeschoolmeals@wirral.gov.uk and include your full contact details, including your national insurance number plus your child’s name, date of birth, and the school they attend.
