Families from across Lancashire have been keeping Father Christmas very busy at Chorley’s Astley Hall this December with thousands taking a ride on Chorley’s Santa Express in the run up to Christmas.
Chorley’s Santa Express, which is organised by Chorley Council, has been a phenomenal success after completely selling out nearly 3,000 tickets by November.
By the end of Christmas Eve, Father Christmas will have met 2,896 people in the magical setting of Astley Hall and given presents to over 1,200 children, with many families travelling from Leyland, Preston, Bolton, Wigan and the Fylde coast to meet him.
Councillor Peter Wilson, Deputy Leader of Chorley Council said: “Chorley’s Santa Express event has been very well received by the public and we are glad that so many people are enjoying their time in Chorley in the lead up to Christmas.
“Tickets to our Santa Express event went on sale in October and tickets were sold out by mid-November. The event has always been popular so we added an extra weekend this year, which was the weekend before Christmas and those were the first dates to sell out.
“Santa Express is a great day out for families before Christmas so it’s no wonder that so many people have been asking about tickets.
“We will be holding the event again next year and tickets will go on sale in October so we encourage people to get their tickets early to avoid disappointment.”
Tickets for Chorley’s Santa Express include a return journey on the Santa Express land train, which departs from the council’s civic offices on Union Street and takes families on a journey through Astley Park. Once they arrive at their destination, children get to meet and greet Father Christmas in Astley Hall’s Inlaid Room, which is traditionally decorated for the season.
Santa takes up residence in Astley Hall every year, which is beautifully decorated for Christmas so visitors can have a look around the historic house whilst they are there.
Throughout December, families have been sharing their photos and experiences of Chorley’s Santa Express on social media with comments like:
“We (16 of us) visited Santa today at Astley Hall. It was superb… Santa was lovely, the house (as always) looked great. The face painter was probably the best I have ever seen. Lovely day.”
“The kids had a good time and I was super impressed.”
“The wonderful spender of Astley Hall made for a perfect experience. If you didn’t manage to get on this year’s express, seriously look at it for next year. Our kids loved it.”
The event, which started on Saturday 2 December and finishes on Sunday 24 December, is growing each year and next year it will return with tickets going on sale in October.
