Your chance to take part in Venetian Proms in the Park

0

Families will have the chance to take part in a unique Proms in the Park Venetian Nights Masquerade in Southport on Saturday, 1 August.

The fun will begin in the afternoon from 1.00pm to 3.00pm with Venetian costume making and mask decorating workshops for all ages at The Atkinson.

This will be followed at 7.00pm by a colourful musical parade from The Atkinson to the Proms in the Park concert at King’s Gardens.

The concert, featuring the Maghull Wind Orchestra, will begin at 7.30pm. The 90 piece woodwind orchestra will be playing a selection of popular TV and film scores, including some well-known Disney themes.

Cllr Trish Hardy, Sefton’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing, said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for families and people of all ages to come along, dress up in fun costumes and have an enjoyable night out.

“We’re giving a modern twist to the Venetian Nights which used to be held on the lake of the gardens in the inter war years.  Back then the Venetian Bridge was decorated with fairy lights and families dressed up in Venetian costumes.  Some people even sailed on the lake in gondolas while singing and playing music!”

Sefton Council is looking for local community groups who would like to take part in the event. For more information, please contact Jane Little-Smith on 0151 934 2421 or e-mail parks@sefton.gov.uk
