On Thursday 1 December, 4pm, faith communities from across St Helens will come together at Central Library for a multi-faith lighting ceremony.

All faiths are welcome to join Mayor and Mayoress of St Helens, Councillors Dave and Jeanette Banks as the library celebrates this special time of year with songs, prayers, readings, refreshments and the lighting of candles.

Central Library’s Christmas tree will be lit with children from Merton Bank Primary who will also be carolling, a gospel choir will jubilantly open and close the ceremony and representatives of each faith community will deliver readings and talk about their faith.

Event-goers can hear readings on the Jewish and Hindu faiths by Rabbi Abel and Dr Jayaram. Rabbi Abel will also light the Chanukah candle ahead of the eight-day Jewish festival of lights, and Father Riley, Dr Jayaram, Reverend Wood and Reverend Fell will light advent candles.

The event is free to attend and will be supported by young people from the library’s Reading Hack group.
