A new health and wellbeing site in The Concourse Shopping Centre, Skelmersdale will host COVID-19 vaccinations for West Lancashire residents starting this week (Wednesday 20 October).

GP practices in Skelmersdale are working alongside Aspire Pharmacy to deliver vaccinations in a new, accessible location in the heart of Skelmersdale.

Residents will be able to book their first, second or booster jabs for the site via the National Booking System or be invited via their GP. The new site will also offer some walk-ins subject to availability.

Second vaccines should be at least eight weeks after a first, and boosters are currently available for people in cohorts 1-9 where the second dose was delivered at least six months ago. The health and wellbeing hub will offer a range of health services for Skelmersdale residents, with full details to be communicated in the coming weeks.

Dr Rakesh Jaidka, clinical lead for the Skelmersdale Primary Care Network, said: “Opening a site within the popular Concourse Shopping Centre will make it easier than ever for Skelmersdale’s residents to access a life-saving COVID-19 vaccine.

“The latest figures show uptake in Skelmersdale is lower than the rest of West Lancashire and we are urging people who has not yet had theirs, or is overdue a second or booster dose, to come forward.

“Vaccinations have substantially reduced the risk of severe illness in the UK, and it helps protect you and your loved ones from the virus. Although restrictions have eased over the last few months, we are still in a global pandemic and virus transmission remains prevalent across the country.

“If you have any concerns related to the vaccine, please seek advice from a healthcare professional. Drop into the centre during opening hours to speak with our friendly team of nurses, who would be pleased to discuss any questions you may have.”

The new site will be open seven days a week between 9am-5pm on Monday to Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sundays. Please note these times are subject to change.
