International diabetes expert Professor May Ng, OBE has just published her latest book, A Guide to Type 1 Diabetes Management, Technology, and Everything Else You Need to KnowThe book fills a gap in discussing the complexities of emerging diabetes technology, and provides essential resources and advice to enable successful self-management of Type 1 diabetes. Written in Prof Ng’s characteristic easy-to-read manner, the book endorsed by Diabetes UK, JDRF and many renowned experts and people living with Type 1 diabetes, demystifies the condition and will be essential reading for anyone living with or caring for someone with Type 1 diabetes.

Professor May Ng OBE is a multi-award-winning consultant paediatric endocrinologist based in Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust and a world leading diabetes expert. She was awarded an OBE in June 2022 for services to people with diabetes, and people with autism and disabilities. She serves as Chair of the UK Association of Children’s Diabetes Clinicians, Chair of UK Diabetes Research Steering Group for Young People, Chair of the European Society of Paediatric Endocrinology E-learning Committee and is on the Advisory Council for the International Society of Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes. She is also the voluntary Chief Medical Advisor for Action4Diabetes a charity saving lives of children with diabetes in Southeast Asia.

Some quick facts about type 1 diabetes:

  • There are approximately 400,000 people in the UK living with Type 1 diabetes, including around 30,000 children.
  • The number of new diagnoses is increasing by around 4% per year.
  • Many of those diagnosed with type 1 diabetes had no family history of the history condition.

As well as her work as an endocrinologist, Professor May Ng who holds 5 academic degrees, is an Honorary Professor at Edge Hill University, and Associate Professor at the University of Liverpool UK. She is the author of over 150 publications and has presented at more than 250 scientific meetings. Her publications include the books A Journey with Brendan and Me and My Hormones: What Can Go Wrong?
