Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust’s Lung Cancer Team received a generous donation of nine new nebulisers in memory of former patient, Joseph Skett.

Joseph had been treated by WWL’s Lung Cancer Team since 2017, and his wife, Angela, praised staff for the excellent care that he received.

Angela said: “I cannot thank the staff enough for the care they gave to Joseph.

“I would like to thank everyone who donated money in lieu of sending flowers; Joseph wasn’t one for flowers so he asked for donations that could buy as many nebulisers as possible to donate to the team that provided him with such fantastic care. We hope they will be a great benefit to other patients.

“Joseph has left a massive void in the lives of his family and friends and he is missed every day.”

Lee Worrall, Lead Nurse in Bronchoscopy/Lung Cancer CNS, said: “We are very grateful to Angela and her family and friends for their generous donation.

“We would like to pass on our condolences and also our gratitude for thinking of our patients at what must be a very sad time for the family”.

Joseph was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and seemed to be doing well following treatment.

However, in April 2019 Joseph suffered a heart attack and during a routine check in August, it was discovered that the cancer had not only come back but it had also spread to his brain.

Venencia Sibanda, Macmillan Lung Cancer Lead Nurse Specialist said: “We are so appreciative of the kindness and generosity shown by Angela and her friends and family. The nebulisers will make a huge difference to the lives of our patients.”
