Ten college students from Hugh Baird College in Bootle gain valuable hands-on experience at Persimmon’s Edinburgh Park Development in Liverpool.
Persimmon hosted a group of college students from Hugh Baird College in Bootle at its Edinburgh Park Development in Liverpool. The students were given an opportunity to learn about bricklaying and get a site tour to gain first-hand experience of an operational construction site.
The event was also attended by the Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram, who spoke to the students about the importance of the construction industry in the region.
The visit was part of Persimmon’s ongoing efforts to support education and provide opportunities for young people in the local area.
In October last year, Persimmon ran a project to revitalise the City of Liverpool Gymnastics Club, providing 25 young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) to learn trade skills.
Mayor Steve Rotheram also commented on the event, saying: “Learning a trade gives you key life skills such as problem-solving and working with others.”
“I loved my time on a building site, the camaraderie and everyone working together, and it’s the sort of characteristics I try and instil in my teams to this day.”
Karl Wiseman, Deputy Regional Chairman, Persimmon expressed his enthusiasm for the visit, stating: ‘We were delighted to welcome the students from Hugh Baird College and Mayor Rotheram to our Edinburgh Park Development.
“It’s fantastic to be able to offer hands-on experience to the next generation of construction professionals and to show them the wide range of opportunities available in the industry.
“We are committed to supporting education and providing opportunities for young people in the local area, and we hope that the students found the visit both enjoyable and informative.”
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to work with experienced bricklayers and learn about the skills required for the job. They were also able to see the construction process in action and gain a greater understanding of the industry as a whole.
Persimmon is committed to supporting education and providing opportunities for young people in the local area. The company believes that investing in the next generation of construction professionals is key to the success of the industry and the wider economy.
