Families enjoy last year’s fireworks spectacle at Sherdley Park.

With thousands of visitors expected at this year’s Sherdley Park fireworks display (Saturday 5 November), St Helens Council is urging people to plan their journey ahead via public transport or allow plenty of time to park before the spectacle begins.

Organisers are promising one of the biggest and best displays yet, with a brand new theme – Saturday Night at the Movies. Fireworks will launch in rhythm with some iconic movie soundtracks in both the children’s and main displays.

The event gets underway at 6pm with the opening of the funfair (open until 9pm) followed by the children’s fireworks display at 7pm, before the main spectacle at 8pm. There will be lots of stalls selling hot food and drinks to keep everyone warm.

For up-to-date public transport enquiries contact Merseytravel Traveline on 0151 236 7676 or visit www.merseytravel.gov.uk

Secure, chargeable, stewarded and fully lit car parking is available at Mere Grange (£5 per car), Lea Green Station, Sutton Academy and The Islamic Centre (£10 per car) or you can park for free at nearby Chester Lane Centre.

Gary Maddock, St Helens Council’s Town Centre Manager said: “This year we will be hosting a musical fireworks display with a movies theme which we believe will be hugely popular and attract a large audience from across the region. The fireworks display in Sherdley Park has increased in popularity over recent years and we are urging people to plan their journey via public transport using Lea Green Station or to use the secure, designated car parks near the site and arrive in plenty of time.”

Event-goers are also being asked to leave their sparklers at home this year. Spent sparklers that can be missed during the clear up operation can cause serious injuries to those taking part in sports activities and dogs being walked in the park after the event.
