Merseyside Police confirm a firearm was recovered in St Helens

It has been confirmed by Merseyside Police that a firearm was recovered after a search of a property in St Helens on Wednesday 23rd April. A search of a house on Wyresdale Avenue was carried out by officers and during a search of the outside of the property a firearm was discovered along with a small amount of cannabis.

The firearm, which is thought to have been a revolver, has been recovered and is being forensically examined.

This led to officers arresting five people on suspicion of possession of a firearm. Four men, aged 19, 20, 27 and 41 years and a 36-year-old woman are now in police custody for questioning.

Detective Sergeant Barry Jones, St Helens CID, said ‘We remain absolutely committed in our pursuit of those involved in gun crime and this is another firearm off our streets. I would encourage members of the public to share any information they have in relation to gun crime. You can be confident that we will act on all information and the information provided, no matter how small, could lead officers to recovering a gun.

I would urge anyone with information about this incident to contact Merseyside Police on the 101 number or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.’
