A large field of runners will look to become ‘North Road Survivors’ at Sunday’s St Helens 10k run

The Mayor of St Helens, Councillor Joe Pearson, has passed on a good luck message to the many runners set to take on Sunday’s St Helens 10k run.

Now in its eighth year, the St Helens 10k was founded by the late St Helens RFC legend Steve Prescott as he battled a rare form of stomach cancer, and is considered to be one of the toughest 10k courses in the country.

This year’s event, which starts and finishes at Saints’ Totally Wicked Stadium, will tie in with the borough’s 150th anniversary celebration plans, with runners receiving a t-shirt incorporating some of the borough’s most iconic landmark sites for their efforts.

“Events like this demonstrate the wonderful community spirit we have here in St Helens,” said Councillor Pearson.

“As Mayor of St Helens I’m immensely proud of the commitment shown by those taking part, and I wish them well.”

The event gets underway at 9:30am and as a result a number of roads in and around the town centre will be temporarily closed between 8:30am and 12:00pm.

They are:

Chalon Way
Cotham Street
Claughton Street
Corporation Street (College Street to Birchley Street)
College Street
North Road
Bishop Road
Cowley Hill Lane
Rutland Street
City Road
