Man hurt in unprovoked attack after boxing event

0

We are appealing for information after a Burnley man was attacked in an unprovoked incident in Blackburn.

The 38-year-old victim had attended a licensed boxing night with some friends at Audley Sports Centre on Chester Street on Saturday 9 April.

At around 10:30pm, he has left the venue whilst a scuffle was taking place outside on the car park between groups of men.

He is believed to have then been subjected to an unprovoked assault which left him unconscious and with an ankle broken in three places, thought to have been caused by someone stamping on him. He also suffered a black eye.

DC Andy Bleasdale from Blackburn CID said: “This is a truly horrendous assault on a man who was innocently just trying to get in a taxi. He had been left with some nasty injuries to his ankle which are going to take some time to heal.

“Did you see an assault or disorder on the car park outside Audley Sports Centre that night? I would urge anyone with information to get in touch as soon as possible.”

Anyone who can assist is asked to call DC Andy Bleasdale on 01254 353563 or they can ring 101 quoting incident reference LC-20160412-0415.

Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555111 or online at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
