Making Markets Matter is heading to Kirkby on Saturday 11th July, to persuade the shopping public to savour the joys of the market.
The event, hosted by the National Market Traders Federation, encourages support for local retail markets.
Now in its tenth year, the event demonstrates everything markets offer from great fresh food to a central community and social scene. The NMTF is encouraging shoppers to change their shopping habits for the good of the local economy, as well as their own pockets.
There will be activities for everyone. The day, which starts at 10am, includes competitions, face painting, free give-aways and games to entertain the whole family.
Cllr Bob Swann, Knowsley’s Lead Member for Environment said “Kirkby Market has been a real cornerstone of the retail offer in Kirkby for over 50 years and with over 130 stalls, there’s something for everyone. It is a great honour to be able to host this event in our new £2.5million market and I’m sure everyone will have a fantastic time”.
It has been proven that shopping at markets is more sustainable, economical and pleasurable than supermarkets.
