A community clean-up day has been applauded by a local volunteer.

On Sunday 17 May, over 30 Woolston residents rolled up their sleeves and teamed up with Warrington Borough Council’s rangers, the Community Payback team and the local Parish Council to clean up their area.

Anne Price, a local resident who volunteered on the day and has taken part in many local clean-up days, said: “An amazing job was done litter picking along the New Cut canal at Woolston and I was amazed at how much rubbish was removed. We collected Christmas trees, wheelie bins, doors, arm chairs and filled three huge lorries provided by the council.

“The guidance from the rangers and the councils was invaluable and the Community Payback team really pulled out all the stops to help us. Everyone gave 100 per cent and I hope that more clean-up days will be held!”

Cllr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture, said: “I am always delighted and grateful by the fantastic response our clean-up days receive. The days bring together groups of people with a common interest and it’s great that communities want to take pride in their local area.

“These days clearly demonstrate effective partnership working and by looking after our local areas, we can help make them better places to work and live.”
