Leigh heritage celebrated for all

Leigh town centre’s annual heritage day celebrations will return next week with a number of activities open to the whole family.

The free event, organised by the Leigh for All heritage day committee and volunteers, is supported by Wigan Council and will be held on Civic Square outside Leigh Town Hall on Saturday 8th September, 10am-3pm.

Funded by the World War One Commemoration Fund, the event will include a vintage car rally, Pegasus military display, vestry café refreshments and much more.

Entertainment will also be provided by the Pemberton Old Wigan DW Brass Band in the Parish Church.

Councillor Clive Morgan, lead member for the armed forces in Wigan Borough said: “It is very important that we remember our history. By organising interactive, enjoyable events such as this, we can recognise the bravery and sacrifice of our veterans and serving servicemen and women. It also provides an opportunity for young people to learn about the heritage of their town and its people. This is a great way to bring the community together, so I urge residents and visitors to come along – you may just find out something you didn’t know before!”
