West Lancashire Labour County Cllrs, Julie Gibson, John Fillis, Terry Aldridge and Nikki Hennessy are calling on West Lancashire residents to respond to the consultation on a new application for shale gas development in West Lancashire.
Speaking on behalf of the Councillors, Cllr Gibson said: “Lancashire County Council has recently received a planning application from Aurora Energy Resources to drill and test two exploratory boreholes in Great Altcar, West Lancashire. As County Cllrs in West Lancashire we are extremely concerned that this will open the door to fracking in the area.”
She continued: “We only have to look at the chaos recently on Preston New Road – the site of the most recent fracking activity in Lancashire. The development was paused for fear that it was exceeding safety limits and posing a real threat to nearby property and residents. It has recently resumed but with no re-assurance to those affected.”
Cllr Gibson continued: “Last November we highlighted the fact that the Government had granted fracking licences for land that has been identified across Skelmersdale and Up Holland. If we are not careful, these areas could be next. We would ask all residents to respond to the current consultation and make their voices heard.”
The application can be found on the County Council website www.lancashire.gov.uk
