A brand new theatre show, that invites audiences to a party, will tour to four Lancashire libraries in November.

“Here I Belong”, from renowned company Pentabus, will first visit Rawtenstall Library on Tuesday 1 November at 6.45pm. From there the show tours to Garstang Library on Wednesday 2 November at 7pm, Clayton Green Library on Thursday 3 November at 7pm and Ormskirk Library on Friday 4 November at 7pm.

Tickets for the show, which is suitable for ages fourteen and above, are available directly from the individual libraries and can be booked either in person or via email.

It’s Elsie’s birthday. You are invited to the village hall to celebrate with us. Bring your friends, bring your family or just bring yourself. There will be cake! Elsie has lived here for 60 years, she has seen elections, weddings, wars, people coming, people going. The village is where her daughter grew up, it’s where her husband died and it’s where she’s going to stay.

Travel through time from 1953 to the present day and help Elsie stay where she belongs. Come along for a sensitive, charming and honest portrayal about village life and the right to grow old in your own home.

Speaking about the show, writer Matt Hartley said:

‘I’m delighted to be asked to write a play for Pentabus. I grew up in a small village in the Peak District and I wanted to write a play that reflected what it’s like to grow up in rural communities and how villages have changed.’

The play has been directed by Elizabeth Freestone, who spoke of the work Pentabus do:

‘At Pentabus we are committed to making plays about rural issues and taking them directly to affected communities. I’m excited that these audiences will see our cast transform through the different time periods before their eyes. Everyone knows someone like Elsie and Here I Belong” will be an uplifting and entertaining piece of theatre for people of all ages.’

The shows form part of Spot On Lancashire’s autumn season of touring, taking professional arts events to rural venues and libraries across the county.
