Everyone loves a competition and it seems the people of Skelmersdale are certainly no different. Over the past few months, the Concourse Shopping Centre has held a number of events and competitions to help celebrate Valentines’ Day, Mothers’ Day as well Easter.

Back in February, the Concourse launched their #UnlockParis campaign in conjunction with Wish FM. The campaign gave shoppers the opportunity to win a three night trip for two to Paris, courtesy of Thomas Cook Skelmersdale, simply by guessing the number of padlocks contained in the secure box. Over 500 people took part, with lots of new visitors coming to the centre – some from outside the local area – to get involved. The lucky winner was Elaine O’Neill who correctly guessed there were 73 padlocks and bagged this top prize.

Mother’s Day is a day to say “thank you” and appreciate the wonderful mum in your life – whether it is your mother, your grandmother, your wife, or a motherly figure. And what better way to say thank you than with an amazing gift bundle – containing fantastic gifts and vouchers supplied by traders within the centre. To be in with a chance of scooping this great prize, Facebook followers were encouraged to like and share a post which promoted the competition as well as the traders who had taken part. The prize bundle consisted of a free cut and blow from Trimmers Hair, a luxury bouquet of flowers from Celebrations, a Ghost perfume gift set from The Fragrance Shop, A £15 voucher for a bath bomb and accessories gift basket from Bathroom Heaven, photo mug and 6*4 photo block from Max Spielmann, and a card, balloon display and teddy bear from Thoughts That Count. All in all, a perfect treat for Mothers’ Day.

Easter is known as a time to indulge in chocolate eggs, hot cross buns and Mini-Egg encrusted cakes, spend time with the family – and this year the Concourse made Easter even more special by giving shoppers the chance to win £100 worth of Concourse shopping vouchers. On Good Friday and Easter Saturday, the centre hosted the Wish FM’s prize grabber machine, which saw participants enter the inflatable machine hoping to ‘grab’ the elusive gold ticket. Mary Smith from Skelmersdale was crowned the winner on Good Friday and Claire Wilkinson from Orrell claimed victory on Easter Saturday. But there were no losers in this game as each person who took part received a chocolate bunny, and with free face painting on site it was a fun time for kids and grown-ups alike.

Anne Peters, Interim Retail Marketing Manager at The Concourse Shopping Centre said “It’s such a rewarding experience running competitions and putting on events here at The Concourse. There’s no better feeling than seeing happy faces around the centre, enjoying the activities we are hosting. They are primarily here for the fun factor, but that’s not to say their eyes aren’t on the prize.

And with the prizes we offer, we’re always looking to benefit the traders within the centre, as well as excite our shoppers. The shopping vouchers are a definite crowd pleaser as they can be redeemed within any shop in the Concourse. We also work with the smaller retailers to help further promote their business, as can be seen in the gift bundle we offered for the Mother’s Day Facebook competition.”
