Investigation launched following Post Office robbery

0

An investigation has been launched by detectives following a robbery at a post office. The robbery occurred a little after 5:30pm on Friday 5th June, when the postmaster had been closing for the day at Rishton Post Office.

Three offenders, who were wearing white CSI style suits and full face masks, entered the post office through the back door, threw a sheet over the member of staff and tied him up.

They have then stolen a substantial amount of money from the safe and have made off in the victim’s Vauxhall Corsa, which was later found abandoned in Eachill Road.

The postmaster, 31, was rescued after his sister had come to the post office when she had been unable to get hold of him. The postmaster was fortunately not seriously physically injured.

Detective Inspector Simon Upton, of East CID, said ‘This was a brutal and pre-planned robbery involving the use of violence against the postmaster who has been through a traumatic experience.

‘Fortunately robberies of this nature are still relatively rare and we are carrying out a thorough investigation to bring to justice these offenders. I would appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information to contact the police.’

Anybody who has got any information can get in touch with police on 101 quoting log number 1229 of June 5th, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers.org
