Investigation after girl, 16, sexually assaulted in Accrington


We are appealing for information following a serious sexual assault in Accrington.

At around 11.20pm on Saturday, July 23 the victim, a 16 year old girl, was walking with her friend along Richmond Road when they got talking to three Asian males. They are thought to have walked with them to Accrington Train Station and remained on the platform until approximately 4.55am on Sunday, July 24.

One of the men is reported to have committed a serious sexual assault on the victim at the Paxton Street side of the station before running off towards Paxton Street.

The man is described as Asian, aged 19 to 20 years old, broad/muscular build, 6ft 1in with short dark hair. He was described as wearing a baseball cap, red checked jacket and dark trousers.

DS Melissa Kelly of Blackburn CID said: “The victim has been subjected to a serious sexual assault and an investigation is on-going to identify the person responsible. We are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area on Saturday night into Sunday morning. If anyone saw the group in the area at the time or has any information that could assist with our enquiries I would urge them to contact us as soon as possible.”
