International Day of Happiness to be celebrated through arts at Central Library

0

Monday 20 March is the International Day of Happiness, and to celebrate Central Library is hosting a full day of events to make residents of all ages smile as part of the Cultural Hubs programme.

The day’s activities begin with Get on the Wall at 12pm when Mike Lindley aka Ralph’s Life – St Helens’ favourite Jack Russell Terrier, DJ, indie music blogger, and part-time stand-up comedian – takes over Central Library until 5pm.

Ralph has curated a group of local musicians and creatives including Drunk Wolf Art, Yellow Door Artists and the UC Crew to celebrate happiness and explore what it means to them, in a heady mix of art, music, poetry, street dance, crafts and just plain silliness.

In the words of Ralph, #HappinessIsDogShaped. Get on the Wall is free to attend, just drop in between 12pm-5pm and check out www.facebook.com/RalphsLife for full line up details and performance times.

The library’s International Day of Happiness celebration culminates at 7pm with an honest, funny and engaging performance by Debs Gatenby called A Place called Happiness.

The show was a year in the making and is Debs’ response to society’s apparent obsession with finding happiness. Debs began an experiment to discover the secret to finding happiness and found herself drowning in a sea of unhelpful self-help.

Debs’ show is suitable for ages 16 and above. Tickets cost £6, £5 (St Helens Library Card holders), £3 (concessions). Book online at www.culturalhubs.eventbrite.co.uk or call into any local library to purchase your tickets.

Councillor Jeanie Bell, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing said: “Our libraries are being used in some brilliant ways to promote positive mental health through the arts. It’s great to see so many local creatives taking part and helping to improve residents’ wellbeing on International Day of Happiness.”
