An appeal for information has been made by police following a serious collision in Bacup. The incident occurred at around 3:20am on Thursday 1st January, on the A681 Newchurch Road, when a Vauxhall Corsa which was travelling from Bacup towards Rawtenstall collided on a bend with a Seat Alhambra which had been travelling in the opposite direction.
The Seat has then collided with two parked cars, a Fiat 500 and a Vauxhall Astra. The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa, a 27 year old man from Stacksteads, suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Hope Hospital in Salford by ambulance, where he remains in a serious condition.
The driver of the Seat, a 23 year old man from Keighley in West Yorkshire, suffered whiplash. Two passengers in the Corsa were not injured.
The road was closed for 5 hours.
Sgt. Malcolm Bell, of the Road Policing Unit, said ‘This incident has left a young man with a serious injury and I would appeal to anyone who saw this collision to contact the police.’
