An appeal for information has been made after a 22 year old man was attacked by two men close to Burnley train station on the night of Sunday 24th May. Shortly before 9pm, the victim had been walking along the footpath which leads from Railway Street in the town centre towards Colne Road, when two men have attacked him from behind. One of the men has put the victim in a neck choke hold, which caused the victim to lose consciousness. Once the victim was on the floor the thieves have then searched his pockets, and have stolen his wallet containing £55 in cash. The two men have also stolen his Adidas rucksack which contained a pair of red Beats headphones.
Before the attackers have left the victim they have kicked him to the face, and have left him on the floor. The victim has sustained minor facial injuries as a result of the attack.
Both of the attackers had been wearing jogging bottoms and dark tops and they are believed to have been from the local area.
DC 2974 Wendy Rothwell from East Lancashire CID said ‘We have stepped up patrols in the area and we have had no other similar reports since this attack. I would like to appeal for anybody who may have witnessed this particularly vicious attack or who may have seen two men acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident to come forward.’
