An appeal for information has been made by police after masked men have broken into a house in Burnley. The incident occurred at about 3:55am on Monday 2nd February, when four offenders have approached an address on Herbert Street and have forced entry into the address through the front door.

Two off the offenders have stayed outside of the house, while the other two have entered the property. Once they were inside, one of the offenders has brandished a knife at the 49 year old male occupant, who had been sleeping downstairs. The second offender has made his way upstairs, where a 13 year old girl had been sleeping, before he shouted that they had got the wrong address. All of the four offenders have then fled from the address.

The offenders are all believed to have been male. One of the offenders who went inside the house has been described as wearing dark clothing, a ski mask and gloves. The second man has been described as wearing black jogging pants, a light blue jacket and a ski mask.

DS Zoe Russo of Burnley CID said ‘The occupants of the address were understandably left shaken and upset by this incident. We believe that the wrong address was targeted and at this stage the intended address and their motive is unknown. We are appealing to anyone who may have information about this incident to come forward and contact us.’
