An appeal for information has been made by police in Burnley following a woman’s purse being snatched in the town. At about 8pm on Tuesday 17th February, a 59 year old local woman had been walking along Hurtley Street, the woman had been carrying her purse as she had been on her way to the shop.

The woman has noticed three men walking towards her and as she had been passing them, one of the men has bumped into her which has caused her to drop her purse. Another of the men has picked up the purse and has run off with the other male.

The third man from the group has offered to get the purse back, and has run off after the two other men. This man has then returned the purse to the woman with all of the contents still inside.

The men have been described as being Asian. One of them was between 18 to 19 years old; another was about 20 and had been wearing a parka coat, while the third man, who returned the purse, is thought to have been around 22 to 23.

DS Louise Darcy, Burnley CID, said ‘I am keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident; particularly an elderly gentleman who we believe was around at the time. Similarly, if anyone has information about this at all, please contact us.’
