An appeal for information has been made by police after a 17 year old girl was sexually assaulted in Burnley. The incident occurred a little after 4pm on Wednesday 11th March, when the victim had been walking towards the town centre.

It is believed that the offender was seen at the junction of Queens Lancashire Way and the Crown Court building and that he followed the victim on to Hammerton Street. The girl was outside Brunlea Travel Agents when the man has approached her from behind and has put his hand up her skirt. The man has then walked off back towards Queens Lancashire Way.

The man has been described as being white, with an average build, approximately 5ft 8in tall, aged in his twenties with short dark hair, with a pale complexion and was clean shaven. It is thought that the man had been wearing a beige or grey waist length waterproof jacket and dark trousers.

DC Jon Penson of Burnley CID said ‘An investigation to identify the man responsible is underway and I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time of the incident and who may have seen a man matching this description to contact us.’

Anybody who has got any information can get in touch with police on 101 quoting incident reference 0850 of 11 March 2015.
