Huyton Village Centre – lot’s going on this month!

There’s lots of exciting updates for Huyton Village Centre this month.

Firstly, based on the popular Foodie Friday event last year, a refreshed family-friendly event will ‘go live’ on Friday 28 June. Huyton Live includes great food, drink, entertainment and craft stalls in the heart of the Village Centre on Derby Road and is a great opportunity to socialise with family, friends and colleagues. The fun starts from 4.30pm and runs until 8.30pm.

Also launching this month is Crafty Mamas, a sensory play and craft centre for under 5’s due to open its doors at 28 Cavendish Walk. Work is progressing well and you can keep up-to-date with how they have transformed an empty shop into Crafty Mamas by following them on Facebook or Instagram @craftmamashuyton.

Work is also nearing completion on the first phase of shop front improvements on Derby Road. Five outlets, which occupy 67-75 Derby Road, are having their shop fronts enhanced, helping to make the village centre more attractive.

During the work, the businesses have been open as usual and the last stages of the transformation, which includes the installation of lighting above the signs, will be completed by the end of the month. A further phase is planned, pending approvals from shop owners and landlords.

There are also a number of new food and drink outlets due to open over the coming weeks and months. The Coffee House, also based on Derby Road, is set to open over the summer. As well as serving a range of beverages, The Coffee House offers an extensive breakfast menu as well as paninis, wraps, sandwiches, jacket potatoes and salads.

Common, based in the former NatWest building, is being transformed into a family-friendly food and drink outlet, providing a great place to meet, eat and socialise. It will offer pizza and cocktails, a pool table, table tennis table, function room and facilities to show live sporting events. Common is due to open in September.

Two more Derby Road premises are being overhauled – Yes Coffee is also planning to expand its offer to provide restaurant facilities with work due to be completed by Christmas and work has started on a new tapas restaurant (El Pueblo) with their doors due to open in September.

In addition, Joe’s stall will be moving into a purpose-built unit in the heart of the village centre over the coming weeks.

Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said “We asked residents what they wanted for Huyton Village Centre and the modernisation of buildings and food and drink outlets was high on their priority list. We’ve listened and work is progressing at quite a pace now to deliver these improvements. I’m also delighted that the village centre will once again host a family-friendly event with the first Huyton Live event taking place on Friday 28 June.”
