How do you think we should spend Community Infrastructure Levy monies?

0

Here is your chance to have your say on how West Lancashire Borough Council should spend money raised from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

CIL allows the Council to raise funds from developers who are undertaking new building projects in the Borough. The money the Council collect must be used to pay for a wide range of infrastructure needed to support new development across the Borough. This can include open spaces, parks, play areas, outdoor sports facilities, playing pitches, cycle paths, footpaths, and community facilities.

The Council wants to know your views on how the money it will have collected by 31 March 2017 should be spent in the 2017/18 financial year.

The Council have shortlisted a number of suitable projects from a much larger list of over 100 potential schemes.  The projects are:

  • Improvements to a stretch of canal towpath between Burscough and Lathom
  • Improvements to the play area at Stanley Coronation Park, Skelmersdale
  • New changing facilities at Whittle Drive playing fields, Ormskirk
  • Improvements to cycle/footpaths at Cheshire Lines, Great Altcar/Downholland

We want to know whether you support these projects. You can also tell us why you think any other listed projects should be considered for funding in 2017/18 or even suggest your own ideas for suitable projects.

You can also comment on whether the Council should spend the available money on some, or all, of these projects or save the CIL money to build a bigger pot for larger schemes in future years.

Councillor John Hodson, Portfolio Holder for Development and Regeneration, said: “CIL funding can help make some exciting projects a reality and we want to hear what the public thinks so please take part in this consultation.  Last year the comments we received helped decide what we spent the money on so it’s important that you get involved.

“CIL shows how the Council provides great value for money as it uses the funds raised through the Levy for the benefit of West Lancashire people.”

You can send your comments to the Council between Thursday 6 October and Friday 4 November 2016. For more information visit www.westlancs.gov.uk/CFP or drop in to your local library or Council office to view the documents. If you have any questions phone 01695 585171.  You can submit your views by downloading a comments form from the website or by collecting a paper version from one of the above venues.  We cannot accept anonymous comments so please ensure your name and address are supplied.

All comments received will be considered as we prepare our final recommendations.  A final decision on how we spend CIL monies will be made by the Council’s Cabinet in early 2017.
