West Lancashire Borough Council’s HomeCare Link service supports 8,500 vulnerable citizens to live independently across the North West and is working round the clock to support them during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
We support many citizens who are in higher risks categories should they contract Coronavirus. The majority of our service users are being asked to self-isolate for 12 weeks adding an additional burden, worry and anxiety and loneliness.
To ensure that the Council can continue to deliver this invaluable service we have moved staff who have volunteered from other services such as Business Support, Audit and Customer Services into HomeCare Link to meet the growing demand on this service and also mitigate any illness that may occur within the original small but dedicated team.
We are currently developing a co-ordinated approach across the Council to ensure we regularly contact our vulnerable residents, ensure they have the food and medical supplies they need and listen to their concerns, sometimes it may also be just to have a conversation.
Councillor Jenny Wilkie, whose Cabinet Responsibilities include Homecare Link, said: “It’s great to see how Council staff have come together to support those who need us most.”
