People are asked to share their views on the centre of Penwortham, to help to develop proposals for the area.
As part of the construction of the Penwortham Bypass, which is now well underway, improvements will be made along the A59 corridor including in the centre of the town.
This includes enhancement measures to take advantage of the reduced traffic through the centre along the A59, and encourage use of the new road, which is scheduled to open in 2020.
People are being asked about possible improvements to cycling, walking and public transport, as part of this project.
Drop-in events will be held next week at Penwortham Youth and Community Centre on Priory Lane on:
• Wednesday 26 September, from 1pm to 8pm
• Saturday 29 September, from 10am to 4pm
This work would also aim to improve the public realm in the commercial and retail centre of Penwortham.
The bypass is being constructed by Lancashire County Council, as part of the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal.
Phill Wilson, project manager for the City Deal Infrastructure Delivery Team, said: “We’re holding these sessions to listen to and understand people’s comments about Penwortham town centre, find out about current issues and look at how we could improve the centre with measures to help and encourage people to cycle, walk and use public transport.
“Once the Penwortham Bypass opens in 2020, it will reduce traffic levels through the town, enabling the A59 corridor and town centre to be enhanced with these sustainable transport measures and improvements to the environment.
“We want to hear your ideas and comments, which will help to inform the design process.
“In the spring, once we have developed plans for these improvements, there’ll be a public consultation and a series of events to listen once again to your views, to help us to finalise the design.”
