A primary school’s bid to be top of the charts is being backed by Lancashire County Council.

Pupils and staff at Flakefleet Primary School have written and created their own song and video, in the hope of achieving the coveted Christmas No. 1 spot.

The song, ‘Light Up’, is raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

It focuses on giving the gift of time, with the video bringing pupils together with residents of the nearby Fleetwood Hall Care Home.

It is officially released on Friday 14 December.

Teachers and children wrote the song, before recording it at a nearby secondary school.

Its video, which has already achieved thousands of views on social media, was filmed over three days in Blackpool working with the care home residents.

County Councillor Susie Charles, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Schools, said: “This just shows exactly how creative education can be. Our pupils can achieve absolutely anything, including hopefully being the Christmas No. 1!

“The song contains an important message that none of us should lose sight of at Christmas.

“I hope that people buy the song and help the children to achieve a dream – an important charity will benefit from their success.

“I’d like to wish the children every success and I hope that they reach No.1.”

Flakefleet Primary School has recently been given the accolade at the National Happiness Awards of ‘the happiest in Britain.’

The school has already made headlines earlier in the year with their re-enactment of the Royal Wedding. Videos of them recreating Fat Les’ Vindaloo during the World Cup went viral.

The single is available to pre-order at iTunes, Google Play and Amazon.
