Families flocked to Picnic in the Park on Sunday

Thousands of people made their way to Astley Park on Sunday to enjoy the Picnic in the Park event which was described by many as ‘the ‘busiest they’ve ever seen’.

Chorley Council hosted the event, which drew Check Out Chorley Week to a close and saw families and friends enjoy their picnics and join in with community based activities.

The authorities Check Out Chorley Week encouraged people to visit Chorley’s many great visitor attractions across May half term to enjoy what they have to offer.

Councillor Alistair Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council said: “Our Picnic in the Park event was once again a huge success and it was great to see so many smiling faces enjoying the activities on offer in Astley Park.

“Thousands of families attended the event in the park which was a great way to end May half term before heading back to work and school.

“We had a host of different activities available on the day and Chorley FM came along and played music in the park which really added to the event.

“We love putting on events for our residents and visitors and we hope that people will continue to check out Chorley and see what is on offer.”

This year’s Picnic in the Park had more community-focussed entertainment with Chorley FM playing music on the lawns of Astley Hall and lots of fun activities including sports, games, arts and crafts, pony rides, football challenges, a climbing wall, Punch and Judy shows and more. People also had the opportunity to meet The Gruffalo and for a small charge, children enjoyed some small fairground rides, bouncy castles and face painting.

Plus, the Chorley 100 exhibition in Astley Coach House was open for people to explore.
