Exciting West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership events

Free football coaching and fantastic food are just two of the great features at some of the community events in Skelmersdale during August.

West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership (WLCSP) members including the Borough Council and Lancashire Police will host an Information and Fun Day at Evermoor Community Hub on Tuesday 4 August, between 10am and 3pm.

Here local people can raise concerns they have about their area and find out information on issues ranging from loan sharks, domestic violence, community safety and tenancy issues.

Another WLCSP event at the Evermoor Hub will be The Big Lunch on Wednesday 5 August, where people can get to know their neighbours a bit better by having a bite to eat with them. Wigan Athletic Community Trust will be providing free football coaching sessions for children, and there will also be a bouncy castle, go karting and other exciting attractions. The Evermoor Hub management team are involved and will be organising the food and hosting the event.

A series of Community Action Days is being organised by the WLCSP from 3-7 August. Like the Information Day, these events aim to improve working relationships between local groups, the voluntary sector and statutory agencies, as well as increase community confidence and reduce the fear of crime.

Wigan Athletic Community Trust will be providing free football coaching sessions for children at Tanhouse Enterprise Group centre on Monday 3 August between 1pm and 4pm as part of the first community action day.

Councillor Kevin Wright, portfolio holder for Community Safety, said: “The Community Safety Partnership is organising some superb events for Skelmersdale and I would encourage local people to take part.”

At the Information Day, Skelmersdale residents can get advice on a range of issues from Community Safety Partnership (CSP) agencies. The Borough Council’s Tenants and Participation team, Environmental Enforcement team, Estate Management team and Street Scene service will be there, along with the Police and Fire Service. Discover Drug and Alcohol Services, Citizens Advice Bureau, the Liberty Centre and Lancashire County Council’s Young People’s Service will also attend. Information will also be available from the Illegal Money Lending team.

There will also be fun activities provided for young people to get involved in and the Evermoor Hub will be providing hospitality including free soft drinks and food.

Community Action Days are planned for different days in Birch Green, Digmoor, Little Digmoor, Castlehey and Tanhouse. These will coincide with community skips being available in those areas on the following dates for people to get rid of unwanted waste. They will be available from 9.30am and will be removed on the same day as soon as they are full.

  • Monday 3 August: Ennerdale, Tanhouse (in the Tanhouse Enterprise Group centre car park).
  • Tuesday 4 August: Birleywood, Digmoor (near Evermoor Hub)
  • Wednesday 5 August: Acregate, Little Digmoor (car park behind Spar)
  • Thursday 6 August: Castlehey (car park next to shop);
  • Friday 7 August: Heversham, Birch Green (bottom car park);

Staff from the Borough Council’s Environmental Enforcement Team, Tenants and Residents’ team and Estates Management team will be at the events along with the CRC Community Payback Team, and police and fire service officers.

Dave Tilleray, Chairman of the West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership, said: “Many of these events are a great way to meet officers from the Council and other public services and we hope that some of the activities will be a lot of fun as well, so make sure you come along.”
