The South Lancashire Breast Screening Service, in conjunction with Imagine Inns, will be hosting an event this week to encourage women to attend their breast screening appointments and to raise the profile of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The special one-off event will be held at The Butler’s Arms, Pleasington on Thursday, 27th September, from 6.30pm where guests can enjoy a glass of pink prosecco and canapés on arrival.

Specially-designed cocktails and mocktails – The Pink and Fruity Lady and the Shirley Aware – will also be available to purchase, as will the opportunity to speak with specialist nurses who will be on hand to discuss any issues or concerns.

Janet Ellison, Patient Navigator for South Lancashire Breast Screening said: “We’re thrilled to join forces with Imagine Inns to encourage ladies to attend their breast screening appointments.

“The event will be a fantastic opportunity for women to enjoy a bit of a get-together, take part in our raffle that various shops from around the Blackburn area have donated prizes to, all the while raising awareness for such a worthy cause.

Imagine Inns Director, Mike Hales who runs the Fieldens Arms at Mellor, Butlers Arms at Pleasington and Top Lock at Wheelton, as well as the newly-refurbished Railway at Bromley Cross, said; “At Imagine Inns, we love to support our communities wherever possible, working with schools to provide funds and equipment, a local social inclusion football team by providing kit and a place to get together, plus raising funds and awareness for homeless charities.

“When Janet asked us to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month to help raise awareness, we jumped at the chance.

“We also wanted to use the opportunity to raise funds for The Three Wishes Charity Women’s Fund.  We’ll be adding £1 to every bill across our estate throughout October to donate to this fabulous charity, as well as donating £1 for every one of our Breast Cancer Awareness Month Cocktails sold throughout October.”

Sheena Hilton, NHS Breast Screening Manager at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, said: “In certain areas of Lancashire, fewer than half of women aged 50 to 70 attend to be screened every three years, even though screening is free, fast and easily accessible.

“If breast cancer is diagnosed at the earliest stage of its development, it is estimated that after five years 99 out of 100 women diagnosed will still be alive, so to being screened regularly and detecting changes early is very important.”
