Entertainment galore for Concourse Centre Christmas launch

0

Concourse Shopping Centre in Skelmersdale is gearing up for an exciting Christmas lights switch-on event, supported by West Lancashire Borough Council, with a host of free entertainment organised to mark the occasion.

The lights switch-on will be launched outside the centre’s western entrance on Saturday, December 1, starting at noon and will be hosted by local radio station Wish FM, with presenter Luke Marsden.

Headline entertainment will be provided by Lucy Thomas, finalist of The Voice Kids 2018, who will perform before the lights switch-on at 4pm, and Jake McKechnie, who appeared on the 2017 series of The Voice Kids and who returns to the Concourse by popular demand.

They will be joined by Princesses of the World, as well as a number of community groups and local school choirs who will perform on stage. The Lancashire County Council Youth Zone will also be providing light refreshments and staging fun, festive activities throughout the afternoon.

Visitors can also get their festive faces on at the free facepainting and glitter bar, which will be located in the East Square, next to the Christmas tree, and they can also grab an elfie selfie with the Wish FM street team, who will be roaming the centre.

Silcock’s Amusements will be bringing a selection of children’s funfair rides to the front of the atrium and in the car park, and there will also be a catering van selling hot food and drinks.

December 1 also sees the opening of Santa’s grotto in the East Square, when the Big Man Himself and his helpers will be waiting to see little ones from 10am. The grotto will be open on select days and until 2pm on Christmas Eve. Find Santa by Thomas Cook and The Money Shop, while the Christmas tree and animations, near Wilko’s, will be providing festive joy to visitors.

Gary Mitchell, centre manager, said: “Christmas is always a special time of the year for us here at the Concourse Centre, and this year we’re pulling out all the stops once more to ensure we kick off the festive season in style. We’re very grateful for West Lancashire Borough Council’s support for the event this year and it promises to be a special occasion for all the family. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone.”

Andy Amesbury, Wish FM station director, said: “The festive launch at The Concourse Shopping centre is always a vibrant and fun event, and this year will be another Christmas cracker. We’re really looking forward to a great day.”

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “Don’t miss this fantastic occasion that will really help you get in the mood for Christmas.

“The Council is delighted to be involved in the Concourse Christmas lights switch on event this year. We have been able to contribute towards providing some high quality entertainment, marketing for the occasion, and the Christmas tree and lights in the event area outside the Concourse.”

Fans of Lucy Thomas also have the chance to win a meet and greet with her – keep an eye on The Concourse Centre Facebook page at Facebook.com/ConcourseShoppingCentre for details.

The Centre will stay open until 7pm and unlimited free parking will be available all day for that day only.

The event takes place from noon-4pm at the western entrance, with the stage being located close to the Concourse Fish and Chips and Nye Bevan Swimming Pool.
