Come along and enjoy the fantastic Green Fayre

There will be fun for the whole family at Beacon Country Park as the fabulous Green Fayre returns on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July.

The show will be open from 11am to 5pm each day and a huge range of wonderful attractions will be on offer at the annual free extravaganza, which is organised by West Lancashire Borough Council Parks and Countryside service. The show is centred around its wonderful working woodlands and craft areas. A variety of different exhibitors and traders will showcase a wide range of traditional crafts and techniques to work natural materials into tools and objects used in everyday life. Displays will include willow weaving, basket making, wheelwrighting, pole-lathe turning and many, many more.

The folk marquee has become an extremely popular attraction since it was first introduced to the Green Fayre five years ago. This year the headline act will be three-time Radio 2 Folk Award nominee Hannah James. Hannah is internationally-renowned virtuoso accordion player, clog dancer and singer and has regularly performed with artists such as The Levellers, Maddy Prior (Steeleye Span) and Sam Sweeney (Bellowhead). She will be supported by a number of local talented musicians playing varieties of folk and traditional music.

There will be a range of exciting animal displays at the Green Fayre, with falconry and dog shows in the arena, owl and birds of prey displays, equine displays and chances to interact with a wide-range of animals in the shows petting farm.

Visitors can take a step back in time by walking through the superb Viking encampment overlooking the town of Skelmersdale. Experience the sights, smells and sounds of Viking life in the shows authentic tented village and find out more by talking to the villagers that can be found there. There will also be chance to experience a Viking raid as fearsome warriors play out exciting battle scenes in the arena.

As well as all this wonderful entertainment there will also be a wide range of fun activities for our younger visitors, including a climbing wall, bouncy castles, trampolines and a small traditional funfair.

There will be a wide range of food and drink available to buy at the show including burgers/sandwiches, hog roast, hot dogs and a range of specialist vegetarian/vegan cuisine. A new feature for this year will be the bar area selling a small range of craft beers, ciders and wines.

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “The Green Fayre really is a fantastic treat for people of all ages, so come along and enjoy all the marvellous activities that will be on offer on both days of this marvellous celebration of the countryside and countryside living.”
