New employment website launched

A new website to help people with learning disabilities to find paid work has been launched.

The website www.northlancsemployment.net features information and inspiring film clips to show people where to go for help, how they can learn new skills, and who to contact for support.

The website was launched at a recent event at UCLan, Preston.

This event was also a chance for partners from the North Lancashire Learning Disability Partnership Board to discuss how they can continue to improve support for people with learning disabilities.

Amanda Topps, Lancashire County Council’s community engagement officer, who has led the project, said: “We want to inspire people with learning disabilities to get a paid job and consider how paid employment could work for them.

“The website will make it easier to find out about things like writing a CV, or getting work experience.

“It also includes films featuring people with disabilities who explain what they have done to get a job.

“Helping people with disabilities to get work is crucial and this website is an important part of our plans.”

The North Lancashire Learning Disability Partnership Board is made up of a number of organisations including Lancashire County Council, NHS organisations, family carers, people who have a learning disability and other voluntary, community and faith groups.

In addition to the new website, the partnership is also holding events to raise awareness of paid employment and benefits issues. The latest event was held in Accrington on Thursday 23 April.
