Employment service supports people living with cancer

A service that provides work-related support for people living with cancer has helped more than 70 people since April this year.

The Wellbeing and Employment service, run by Lancashire County Council, aims to support people living with cancer who want to work to continue in employment or to find a job.

The service supports people by providing information on employment rights, drawing up return to work plans, and helping people access further education, as well as offering more general advice.

County Councillor Graham Gooch, cabinet member for adult services, said: “Cancer-related illnesses have been identified as one of the most common causes of long-term sickness absence. However many people with cancer, or who have had cancer, want to continue to work or return to employment.

“They see work as an important way of maintaining normality during a difficult time, and for some it may be a financial necessity.

“Our trained employment experts can help with anything from ensuring you know your employment rights and freshening up your CV, to helping you search for available jobs, or finding further education courses to help you learn new skills.

“We’re here to help anyone affected by cancer who wants to stay in employment.”
