Families and children with diabetes took part in a family fun day organised by the Children’s Diabetes Team at Southport and Ormskirk hospital and the families with diabetes support group The Lancelots, affiliated with Diabetes UK (July 2). Everyone was welcomed at St Anne’s Community Hall in Aughton, to enjoy a bake sale, bingo, raffle, kids toy tombola, raffle and outdoor games and educational sessions with police and fire brigade.
Professor May Ng OBE, Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist said: “Our Paediatric Diabetes Charitable Fund annually holds the Family Fun Day event to give families and children with diabetes an opportunity to meet socially, away from hospitals and clinics. We had virtual events for the last 2 years due to the pandemic and are so pleased to see everyone again this year. We thank all the families, colleagues, local businesses who have generously donated to support the event and our charity. Thank you to the Ormskirk Fire Brigade and the Ormskirk and Rural West Lancs Police officers who came to chat with the children”.
The Southport and Ormskirk Paediatric Diabetes Team cares for over 180 children with types 1 and 2 diabetes across west Lancashire, Southport and Formby. The team has won many national awards for its innovative work including the recent 2020 North West Parliamentary Award for Excellence in health Care. Prof May Ng set up the paediatric diabetes charity fund 13 years ago, for essential learning and teaching materials for patients, and for the team to hold regular education sessions for families and children with diabetes.
