Skelmersdale Boundary Harrier’s women took five of the top ten individual places in the final race of the North West Cross Country League to seal the series win and take the 2019/20 seasons trophy. The three highest placed finishers from the team, that also includes runners from the Parbold Pink Panthers, were Maria Cook, Honor Thompson and Becky Wadeson.

The six races that make up the series were by far the muddiest and most draining for many years after the wet winter weather, but these conditions only served to spur on the women to victory most of whom train and race in the Pennines and the mountains of the Lake District. The win follows a number of seasons finishing as runners-up in what is a highly competitive event and includes far larger clubs from Liverpool and the North West region.

The women’s team has strength in depth and a great sense of camaraderie that bodes well for the future of running around the trails of Skelmersdale and Parbold.

Should any women fancy training up for next years Cross Country or are wanting to run in the local area then Skelmersdale Boundary Harriers and the Parbold Panthers are friendly running clubs that welcome all keen runners to join them and participate in their training nights and race calendar.
