Independent crime-fighting Charity Crimestoppers is today offering a reward of up to £5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for the attempted robbery of a 91 year-old man in Skelmersdale.

The robbery happened between 2.45pm and 3.15pm on Wednesday 4 March when the man was locking up a garage on Evenwood. He was approached from behind by two men, one of whom forcefully restrained him thereby enabling the second man to search through his pockets. One of the men then forced him to the floor using his head and rubbed his face into the gravel.

They fled the scene empty handed, leaving the man on the floor with wounds to his head, leg and wrist.

Both men are described as white and of a stocky build with Liverpool accents.  One was over 6ft tall and the other between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in, both had short dark hair and were of a scruffy appearance. The taller man was wearing a grey jumper.

The Crimestoppers charity is now offering a reward of up to £5,000 for information received via the anonymous 0800 555 111 telephone number or Anonymous Online Form, leading to the arrest and conviction of the men responsible.

Gary Murray, Crimestoppers’ North West Regional Manager, said: “This awful attack has left an elderly man with nasty wounds. We urge anyone who may know these men, or who may have seen something on that day, to call Crimestoppers anonymously.

“We will never ask for any of your details and, significantly, you’ll never have to give a statement to police or go to court. So please, do the right thing, call 0800 555 111 and tell us what you know.”

If you have any information then please contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through our Anonymous Online Form.
