West Lancashire Borough Council is set to launch its new £1 swim and gym session offer at Skelmersdale’s Nye Bevan Pool in September.
Starting on Sunday 18 September, teens aged 12-17 will be able to access swimming sessions, water inflatables, gym and circuit training all for just £1 at Nye Bevan between 4pm-6pm.
These increased opening hours will provide a targeted safe space for young people to enjoy the facility.
The council’s new portfolio holder for leisure Cllr Carl Coughlan said:
“It is through partnership working that we can make a real difference in young peoples’ lives, working together to provide new, exciting and affordable opportunities, ensuring that young people feel integrated in our communities.
“We hope to see this offer widely used by young people across Skelmersdale, helping to build lifelong relationships through healthy activities.”
Portfolio holder for health and wellbeing Cllr Vickie Cummins added:
“I am delighted that young people in West Lancashire are being offered this opportunity to increase their activity levels, socialise together and even learn some new skills.”
The project will also offer opportunities to young people to volunteer and work towards achieving a national lifeguarding qualification, which could lead to employment opportunities.
Following this pilot and its impact, further trials will be considered at other venues in the borough.
