Consultation on road-widening plans for the A582

0

People are asked for their views on proposals to widen the A582 in South Ribble, to relieve congestion by creating a dual carriageway.

The A582 is one of the main routes through South Ribble and into Preston, and currently suffers from significant congestion at peak times.

The plans, which are part of the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal, would upgrade the full route into a dual carriageway between Cuerden and Preston city centre. This also includes the section of Flensburg Way towards Longmeanygate in Leyland.

A consultation on these plans is being carried out by Lancashire County Council. It will run from Monday 2 February until Sunday 15 March 2015.

A series of local public events will be held. People are invited to come along to find out more, share their views and speak to staff about the proposals in more detail.

Details of the public consultation events:

• Monday 2 February, 10am-8pm
An exhibition bus at the Anchor Inn, Croston Road, Lostock Hall

• Thursday 5 February, 2pm-8pm
St John’s CofE Church, Leyland Lane, Leyland

• Monday 9 February, 11am-7pm
St James Church Hall, Lostock Hall

• Wednesday 11 February, 10am-8pm
Penwortham Community Centre, Kingsfold Drive, Penwortham

You can also complete a questionnaire online from Monday 2 February – visit www.lancashire.gov.uk/haveyoursay and select ‘A582 Road Widening Consultation’ to take part.

The proposals aim to reduce congestion on the A582 and neighbouring roads, improve cycling facilities along the route, provide easier access to new housing development sites and provide opportunities for bus priority.

Comments received during the consultation will be reviewed, with further design work carried out to support a possible planning application early next year.

Work funded by the City Deal has already begun to upgrade a number of junctions along the A582, in anticipation of the proposed dual-carriageway work.

The City Deal sets out a detailed plan to support the creation of more than 20,000 new jobs including 5,000 in the Lancashire Enterprise Zone, over 17,000 new homes and nearly £1billion in economic growth over the next 10 years.
