Come and enjoy the latest Chapel Gallery exhibition and showcase

Escape into a wilderness with the new Chapel Gallery exhibition showcasing an amazing collection of artworks, including paintings, photography and 3D.

Into the Wilderness includes atmospheric ruins and nature untamed, subjects which have over the years inspired many artists.

The exhibition runs from Saturday 27 February until Saturday 9 April 2016 and families can enjoy free activities inspired by the exhibition on the opening day.

Exhibiting artists are Tracey Eastham, Paul Gallagher, Pam Holstein, Justice Hyde, Josie Jenkins, Susan McCall, Anthony Ratcliffe and Jean Davey Winter.

Paul Gallagher became hooked on photography while studying graphic design at Southport College. After finishing college he visited the Lake District and Scottish Highlands as he loved being in the wilderness and using photography to capture what it meant to him. Paul’s portfolio led to his work being used by Epson UK and commissions from the BBC and the Environment Agency. He now facilitates fieldcraft workshops and has had books published.

Paul said: “I have never looked back since then and I now run workshops all over the world. This year I am going to California, Utah, Arizona, Japan, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Iceland, the Arctic, Norway, and the Faroe Islands, not to mention the Highlands of Scotland and the Outer Hebrides.”

If you would like to exhibit your own photograph of a natural landscape at the Chapel Gallery, email a high resolution jpg image (between 1mb and 3mb) to chapel.gallery@westlancs.gov.uk. A shortlist of entries will be exhibited, and visitors encouraged to vote for their favourite. The photographer whose image receives the most votes will be awarded £100. The deadline for submissions is 21 March 2016.

The West Lancashire Borough Council-run gallery is also hosting a showcase by artist Ita Drew from Thursday 17 February to Saturday 2 April 2016. This is an extraordinary collection of work, inspired by folklore and personal experiences. Ita’s work is both charming and unnerving, with the drawings, paintings and ceramics conjuring up stories and characters that embody these qualities.

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “Make sure you come along to the gallery to enjoy the latest exciting exhibition and showcase, don’t forget that a range of free creative activities is always available for families to make use of.”

Gallery visitors can also sample teas from around the world within the gallery space and at the Chapel Gallery Cafe.
