Part of Bartle Lane will temporarily close from 7am on Tuesday 26 May as construction of the mainline of the Preston Western Distributor Road begins through the area.

The road will be closed for 240 metres from the junction of Lea Lane, and a diversion will be in place for through traffic via Lea Lane, Sidgreaves Lane, Hoyles Lane and Sandy Lane.

Pedestrians, horse riders and cyclists will not be able to travel through the road closure for safety reasons.

County Councillor Keith Iddon, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “The work taking place is major and we ask that members of the public respect the closure points for their own safety. Access to properties on Bartle Lane will not be affected, but members of the public will only be able to gain access from Sandy Lane. Access from Lea Lane will not be available and we have been liaising with those likely to be affected.”

The work taking place includes the construction of the new Bartle Lane Bridge, where part of Bartle Lane will travel over the main line of the Preston Western Distributor Road. Bartle Lane is planned to reopen in summer 2022 upon completion of this work.

The Preston Western Distributor Scheme is part of the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal.

This is an agreement between Lancashire Enterprise Partnership and Preston City Council, South Ribble Borough Council and Lancashire County Council, along with central government and Homes England.

Funding for these new roads is coming from the Department for Transport, City Deal, Highways England and the Lancashire Growth Deal.

City Deal is helping to deliver new infrastructure, new homes and more jobs. It will help to create more than 20,000 new private sector jobs and see over 17,000 new homes built across the area, along with new school places, open green spaces and new health provision to cater for the growing population.
