Chorley set to light up for Christmas

0

Everyone is invited to gather in Chorley town centre on Saturday 18 November to watch a popular Coronation Street star transform the town into a sparkly winter wonderland at the annual Christmas lights switch on event.

Organised by Chorley Council and sponsored by Eric Wright Construction, the event will see Antony Cotton, who plays Sean Tully in Coronation Street and is about to appear in the next series of Dancing on Ice, do the honours and switch on Chorley’s Christmas lights.

The show will start at 3pm on the Christmas stage on Market Street and will be hosted by ITV Granada’s Paul Crone. Throughout the afternoon there will be performances from some of the best acts from Chorley Live including Amused, Ryan and Craig, Ellie Valentine, Millie-Mae and more. Plus the Sing It Big choir will be singing Christmas songs to get everyone in the festive mood.

Also making appearances on stage will be Chorley’s very-own boxing sensation and British super lightweight champion, Jack Catterall, as well as the Totally Locally Chorley Elf and Father Christmas.

Councillor Peter Wilson, Deputy Leader of Chorley Council with responsibility for events said:

“Chorley’s Christmas lights switch on is a spectacular event which gets everyone feeling the warmth of Christmas despite the cold weather.

“There are some very popular and exciting acts as part of the line-up this year and we are especially delighted to have Antony Cotton from Coronation Street and soon-to-be one of the stars of Dancing on Ice, switching on the lights with a blast of fire and ice from the stage.

“We hope that everyone is looking forward to enjoying the festivities, which also include some festive market stalls at the top of Market Street and along Fazakerley Street. We’re looking forward to seeing Chorley packed out and we hope everyone enjoys the festive season in style.”

Everyone is welcome to come along to Chorley’s free Christmas light switch on which begins at 3pm with the big switch on at 5pm.

Parking is free in all town centre car parks after 1pm every Saturday but visitors are being asked to remember that the Flat Iron car park is a two hour maximum stay car park even in the free periods.

There’s also the park and ride bus running from Morrisons every Saturday and the service will be extended on 18 November so everyone can get back to their cars after the switch on.
