Children’s festival funded through Brighter Borough

Farm-yard animals, circus entertainers, funfair rides and more will descend on a Wigan park next month thanks to a cash boost.

On Saturday 9th September, the Be Involved Group (BIG) will host a free children’s festival at Jubilee Park in Ashton thanks to local business sponsorship and funds from Wigan Council.

Between 12pm and 5pm, both Jubilee Park sites will have a range of activities on offer suitable for the whole family, promising to cover a range of interests for all ages including:

  • Jugglers and clowns
  • Singers, dancers and gymnasts
  • Choirs
  • Sports activities including football, climbing walls and inflatables
  • Donkey rides
  • Farm-yard animals
  • Crafts
  • Sandpit
  • Funfair

Councillor Jenny Bullen, cabinet member for children and young people at the council pledged some of her annual Brighter Borough money for the event.

She said: “I’m privileged to be a part of such an enjoyable and positive day giving our children and young people something to look forward to at the end of the summer holidays.

“BIG have been extremely creative in organising the event and I’m confident it will be a huge success.”

There will also be food available during the afternoon from local providers, including a barbecue in Queen’s Road Methodist Church.

Local businesses including, Boutique Dental 23, Special Days, All Planned Print and Design and Inspiring healthy lifestyles have sponsored the event and BIG have contributed £2,000 themselves from fundraising activities over the past few months.

Amy Napier, chair of BIG said: “Over the last three years, we have arranged a number of activities at different points in the year, including Halloween, Easter and Christmas but we’ve never done something in the summer.

“We have worked tirelessly over the past few months to gather the funding and support needed to give our children the opportunity to take part in some really interactive and enjoyable activities. We’re looking forward to enjoying the day and seeing as many people there as possible.”

Keira Weathers, 2015 X Factor finalist, will open the show on the Wish FM stage followed by a number of other artists.
